Cristian Meghea, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Biology at Michigan State University and an Associated Researcher in the Department of Public Health at Babes-Bolyai University. His research focuses on improving women’s health in low resource settings with a collaborative, community-engaged, multidisciplinary, and global approach. The broad goal of this research is to use the prenatal and perinatal period as a window of opportunity to improve the long-term health of women and their families and to reduce health inequities. Dr. Meghea’s research agenda was supported by over 15 million dollars in funding, with results including 47 manuscripts, one book chapter, and many presentations at research conferences. His work has over 500 citations, growing from an average of 25 per year in 2011-2013 to approximately 75 per year in 2015-2017. His scholarship is engaged, conducted with community and policy partners and colleagues across multiple disciplines, and has been supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the Romanian national research funding agency, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and other sources. The research was published in journals including Pediatrics, American Journal of Preventive Medicine, JAMA Pediatrics, American Journal of Public Health, and European Journal of Public Health. Dr. Meghea’s scholarship has impacted a wide range of individuals and communities, both in the US and internationally, including scholars from various disciplines, undergraduate and graduate students, pregnant women in low-resource settings and their families, policy makers, nongovernmental organizations, and professional organizations.
