Dr. Blaga is a young, enthusiastic, and resourceful public health researcher and a newly appointed assistant professor in the Department of Public Health. She has an interdisciplinary educational background (PhD in political sciences with a thesis on behavioural economics and the development of tobacco control policies, MS in research design and data analysis in social sciences, and BA in communication), allowing her to integrate social and behavioural health concepts, strong research skills, and public policy components in her work. Her research and teaching activities are also benefitting from the knowledge and skills she acquired as a recipient of two Fogarty-sponsored scholarships on community and behavioural health (at University of Iowa’s College of Public Health) and mHealth (to participate in the 2016 Global mHealth Research Training Institute at the U.S. National Institutes of Health). Her research is focused on improving maternal and child health in Romania by promoting smoking cessation among Romanian couples and preventing smoking relapse in the postpartum period for women who quit during pregnancy. In the past 3 years, she has led two teams at Babes-Bolyai University that contributed to the implementation of two mHealth-based projects in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
